WISE and INASP to provide online LIS courses

Syracuse, NY—WISE and the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) have entered a partnership to explore providing online continuing education courses to faculty in LIS schools who are participating in INASP’s curriculum development project. Faculty from universities in Tanzania and Bangladesh are participating in the pilot program this summer.
The four faculty members, from the Department of Information Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the Department of Library and Information Studies at Rajshahi University in Bandladesh, will be taking two courses online from Syracuse University this summer.
The first course, “Digital Libraries,” is taught by Joanne Silverstein, Director of Research and Development, Information Institute of Syracuse and Assistant Research Professor at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies. It is being offered as part of WISE+, which funds the development of partnerships between WISE member schools and associations. This course focuses on the many social, technical, and conceptual aspects of digital libraries and culminates with the final project, where each student designs their ideal digital library.
The second course, “Information Architecture for Internet Services,” explores the application of Internet technologies in organizations, and is taught by Vadim Parkansky, Adjunct Professor at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies.
